AREALIS, as a subsidiary of the Vienna Insurance Group, has in the course of a general refurbishment drive been participating in a pre-eminent project in Vienna’s first district. The building is owned by the Vienna Insurance Group (VIG) and was restored to top condition with due recognition of all sustainability criteria, in cooperation with the City of Vienna’s Construction and Facility Management Department.

The building, located at Rathausplatz 2 / Ebendorferstraße 2, was within two years fully renovated, thermally insulated and connected to district heating. A photovoltaic system on the roof is also being implemented already. Renovation of the building complex was implemented in cooperation with the City of Vienna.

The VIG has now been awarded the gold certificate of the Austrian Society for Sustainable Real Estate Management (ÖGNI) for this project.

The ÖGNI is an NGO for the establishment of sustainability in the construction and real estate industry. The ÖGNI endeavours to demonstrate the added value of building certification aimed at creating environmentally and resource-friendly buildings of high economic and social efficiency, promising flexible use for many generations and sporting a positive impact on the health, well-being and performance of their users.

The ÖGNI maintains that sustainable real estate constitutes the basis for liveable cities offering measurable added value for their citizens and the environment. This interest is also reflected by the Vienna Insurance Group’s strategy of sustainability in the investment area.
